Cristofer A. Cabanillas, CFP®

Cristofer Cabanillas is a principal of Monterey Private Wealth. He has been in investment management since 1999 after earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Economics from the University of San Diego. He holds a certificate in Personal Financial Planning from San Diego State University and earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation in 2005.

Cris currently serves on the Board of Trustees in the position of finance for the International School of Monterey. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Monterey and is involved in various educational community service projects, including serving as a mentor for California State University Monterey Bay students. He helped introduce a new CHOICES program in 2009 to all Monterey district rotary clubs. The CHOICES program brings eighth grade students together with local business and leadership volunteers to discuss the decisions teens make during their educational years and the long-term impact those decisions have over their lives. 

Cris was on the Board of Directors for the Monterey/Santa Cruz Financial Planning Association for three years and is a graduate of the Leadership Monterey Peninsula (LMP) Program – class of 2006. At LMP, he launched a financial literacy program in Monterey Peninsula high schools, educating high school seniors on topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, taxation and insurance. Since the program started in 2005, over 1,200 students have completed the financial literacy program. Cabanillas regularly volunteers in the classroom giving guest lectures on investing and the benefits of saving early. 

Cris and his wife Shelley have two daughters. He is a native of San Diego and moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 2003. Cris is an avid runner and enjoys many outdoor activities. Together with his family, Cris particularly enjoys travelling abroad. Se habla español.
